When we were kids, my sisters and I used to play Pick-Up Sticks at our grandmother’s house.
The goal of the game is to pick up as many sticks as you can, without moving any of the other sticks. To win, you need patience, concentration, and extremely nimble fingers. Thinking back on it now, I have a new appreciation for the game. My grandmother entertained us by dumping a pile of sticks on the carpet…
And we loved it.
It turns out that my children love pointy sticks just as much as I did. And you know what else they like? Fruit. So this cooking project is right up their alley.
I give them wooden skewers and bowls of fruit and they create Fruit Pick-Up Sticks.
We bring these fruit kebobs to parties and picnics and they always go fast.
Who doesn’t love fruit-on-a-stick? But the best thing about Fruit Pick-Up Sticks is that the kids made them all by themselves. They are bringing something to the party that they made from scratch.
