Knock knock. Who’s there?  Orange.  Orange who?

Orange you glad to see me?

Today I’m going to share a simple recipe for Orange Gummies, a lovely citrus treat.

    What is gummy candy?

Gummies are a kind of gelatin-based chewable sweet candy.  They come in all shapes and sizes and are always a big hit with children.  But store-bought gummy candy contains all manner of artificial colors, flavors, and preservatives.  Best to make your own gummy candy at home, I say.

    Creamy or Fruity?

There are two ways you can go with gummy candy.  It can be either straight up fruity or creamy and fruity.  Today I’m going to show you how to make the creamy kind, but I have a great recipe for classic gummy bears on this site.

    Ingredients

    • Sugar-Free Orange Jello
    • Knox Unflavored Gelatine
    • Swerve Confectioners
    • cold water
    • heavy whipping cream

    Instructions

    1. Soften unflavored gelatin in cold water.
    2. Then heat some cream in a saucepan over medium heat until simmering.
    3. Add Jello powder and sweetener and mix to dissolve.
    4. Fill the wells of a rubber candy mold with the liquid.  (Or you can pour it into a loaf pan and cut it into cubes later).
    5. Chill in the refrigerator for 1 hour.

    Are these Orange Gummies sugar-free?

Yep.  They use Sugar-Free Jello and sugar-free sweetener, so they have zero sugar in them.  You can make a regular version using normal Jello though if you'd like.  But the sugar-free version is Keto, so if you are on a low carb diet, that is the way to go.

    Is this gummy candy gluten-free?

That it is. These fruity treats are made from just unflavored gelatin, Jello, sweetener, and heavy whipping cream, so no gluten there.

    Jello shots anyone?

With a few slight tweaks, this recipe can easily be made into adult party treats. Check out this recipe for creamsicle Keto jello shots that I found on the My Life Cookbook blog. It's a fun way to tipple.

Do they have to be orange gummy candies?

No, you can use any flavor of Jello that you want in these gummies.

Now Orange you glad I told you how to make them?

Sure, it would just be a Jello Jiggler. Here's the recipe:
0.3 oz packet of sugar-free Jello
        ½ cup boiling water
        3 tbs cold water
        non-stick spray
Pour the powder into a 4 cup measure.
Add half a cup of boiling water, and stir vigorously until the crystals have dissolved. Then add three tablespoons of cold water, and stir again.
Pour the mixture into the molds (spray them first lightly with the non-stick spray). You'll need two small Easter-themed mold trays with 8-10 cavities each for this recipe.
Leave to cool for ten minutes, then transfer to the fridge for two hours or until set.
Carefully release the Jello shapes from the mold.

Does the carb come from the heavy whipping cream you're using? I use erythritol and a heavy cream that are both zero carb. I just wondered, though the count is still minuscule.
      Thanks!

The 1g net carb amount does come from the heavy whipping cream. People think of it as a zero carb food because it's got less than 1g per serving. But it actually has 6.7g carbs per cup. Each serving of these raspberry gummies uses 2 tablespoons of cream so that works out to .825g carb. So the answer is that heavy whipping cream actually does contain carbohydrate, but most people round the amount down, while I rounded it up.
