Greetings Jello lovers 👋
Today's retro Jello recipe comes to us from the venerated Joys of Jell-O cookbook.
The idea is to create a light and airy Jello fluff salad using just Sugar-Free Jello and whipped cream. ⛅
You've got 2 options 🤔
You can use a store-bought tub of Cool Whip if you want to save time. All you need is a package of Sugar-Free Jello and a tub of Cool Whip. The downside of this recipe is that the net carb count is 12g per serving.
This brings us to method number 2. You can make your own sugar-free whipped cream and it lowers the net carb count down to 1g.
That’s more like it!
Ingredients 🥣
- Sugar-Free Jello, any flavor
- boiling water
- ice water
- heavy whipping cream
- Swerve Confectioners
Sugar-Free Jello Flavors 🌈
You can use any flavor of Jello that you like in your jello whips. The four brands that make sugar-free Jello are Jello-O obviously, Royal, GramZero, and a scrappy little candy brand you might have heard of: Starburst. Usually, the only brands that you can buy in the supermarket are Jell-O and Royal, but you can find the other two on Amazon.
- Jell-O Brand Flavors: Cherry, Black Cherry, Lime, Lemon, Strawberry, Peach, Raspberry, and Orange
- Royal Brand Flavors: Strawberry, Lime, Orange, Cherry, Raspberry
- Starburst Brand Flavors: All Pink Strawberry, Blue Raspberry, Cherry
- GramZero Brand Flavors: Raspberry, Strawberry, Cherry, Lemon, Lime, Orange
Naturally Sweetened Jello 🍚
Now I know that some of you are concerned about the artificial sweeteners in Jello. (I post a lot of Sugar-Free Jello recipes, so I hear about this on the daily.). But there is a naturally sweetened brand of gelatin that you can use. It's the GramZero brand that I mentioned. Just skip the part where you quick set the Jello with ice cubes.
It is sweetened with Stevia, so you've got no worries. 😇.
Where to Buy Sugar-Free Jello 💰
Instructions 🧾
- In a medium-size bowl, stir Jello powder into boiling water and keep stirring until it is completely dissolved.
- Fill a 1 cup measure with ice. Fill the remaining space in the measure with water to make 1 cup of ice water. If using GramZero brand jello, don't use ice water, just the same amount of cold water.
- Stir the ice water into the Jello and keep stirring until cooled and the ice cubes are mostly melted. Remove any unmelted ice cubes. The Jello will soft set while you do the next step.
- In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to whip together sweetener and heavy whipping cream. Whip until stiff peaks form.
- Use the electric mixer to whip the soft set Jello into the whipped cream. Mix until fully combined.
- Pour the Jello whip mixture into 4 custard cups or 1 medium-sized bowl and refrigerate for 2 hours.
And voilà! 👩🍳
This is one of those easy recipes that seem too good to be true. But you really can “whip up” a rather decadent treat for yourself in less than 10 minutes. It’s a creamy, fluffy, fruity delight.
A true Joy of Jello.🥰

Thank you for this recipe. Made it twice. Great dessert when watching your weight

Sure thing!
Karen Koehler says
Can you use Splenda for the sugar substitute?
Emily Krill says
I’ve never used Splenda, so I just don’t know.

I'm trying to figure out what would happen if I mixed the jello mix straight into the whipped cream. I made homemade crepes for Christmas breakfast, and homemade whipped cream. I have a bunch of leftover whipped cream and one small box of instant raspberry jello mix...
Emily Krill says
You can do it, but it will be gritty. I recommend following my recipe.☺️
RTS says
It'll be gritty like the author says. I've tried with heavy cream that wasn't whipped and it just separates into layers with the cream floating to the top. Neat effect if you want to make thin squares with a flavored layer on top, but not the same as these whips.
Kristina says
My kids and I have made this several times now and it is amazing! Thank you so much!

Emily Krill says
No problem!
Christie says
Do you use equal portions when substituting with cool whip? 1 cup cool whip instead of 1 cup of heavy cream? Thanks. Looks yummy!
Emily Krill says
That will work.
Jennifer says
This is a great recipe, but I am old school and like to print things out. There seems to be some trouble with the site and it won't allow me to print no matter how many times I click the button lol. If you can fix that would be great....definitely Pinning though
Linda says
The different gelatin brands sell different sized packages. The Starburst brand has 3.94 ounces of dry powder compared to the 0.3 ounces in the recipe. I can't reconcile the difference - it isn't a matter of adjusting the amounts accordingly. Anyone have a relevant recipe using this Starburst?
Emily Krill says
Try making the Jello according to the package directions then mixing in the heavy whipping cream. You can skip the added sweetener. Chill.
Chelsea says
The jello wouldn’t mix with the whipped cream, what did I do wrong?
Emily Krill says
I’m not sure what you did wrong.
Deborah White says
I used the gram zero jello and recipe was complete flop. Using the ice it set up immediately and I ended up with chunks of jello coated with whipped cream.
Waste of expensive ingrediants.
Emily Krill says
Yikes, I'm sorry. Thank goodness for comments like these. I just made a note of it in the recipe.
Beth K says
I’m one of those who cannot eat any dairy, including Cool Whip. Do you think this would work with whipped Coconut Milk? I would love to eat desserts like this again! 🩷
Emily Krill says
I’ve never tried using whipped coconut milk so I’m not sure if it would work. I say give it a go though!
Pamela says
My husband loves this and so do I. We are starting on our journey and it seems like all he thinks about is what he can't have!! Am struggling a little to keep him focused. This definitely caught his taste buds 😂😂😂🤣

Yay!
Theresa says
Can you use regular jello instead of sugar free?
Emily Krill says
Sure, just follow the package instructions and then whip in the cream.
Sky says
How many ounces does this make? About 22-24 oz total?
Emily Krill says
Oh geez, I have no idea. Add up the ingredients I guess.
