    Easy Sugar Free Chocolate Mousse

    Jump to Recipe

This Sugar Free Chocolate Mousse recipe is a light and airy dessert that is low carb and Keto.  It’s a sweet chocolatey treat with only 5g net carbs per serving.

    Low Carb Keto Chocolate Mousse

    Greetings chocoholics.

I’m sure you’ve already marked your calendar, but just a reminder that National Chocolate Mousse Day is on April 3rd.  I’ve decided to celebrate early this year with this Sugar Free Chocolate Mousse.  It’s absolutely fabulous.

    What is Chocolate Mousse?

Mousse (pronounced moose like the animal) is a light and airy soft custard that incorporates air bubbles to give it its fluffy texture.  It can be thick or thin, depending on how you prepare it.   Mousse can be sweet or savory, but savory mousse sounds just awful, so the Chocolate Mousse recipe I’m going to share with you today is sweet.

Where did Chocolate Mousse come from?

Chocolate Mousses originated in France in the 1700’s. The first written record of chocolate mousse in America comes from a Food Exposition held at Madison Square Garden in New York City in 1892.  But the Chocolate Mousse really came into its own in the 1930’s when celebrities like Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt shared this delectable chocolate foam dessert with guests.

Can you make Chocolate Mousse Sugar Free?

Traditional Chocolate Mousse is loaded with cane sugar, but you can make it at home with a sugar-free sweetener.  The recipe that I am going to share with you today uses a erythritol sweetener which has zero calories and zero carbs.

Is this Sugar Free Chocolate Mousse recipe Keto?

Yes, it certainly is.  By replacing the sugar with sugar-free sweetener and normal chocolate with sugar-free chocolate chips, the total carb count for this low carb chocolate dessert has just 5g net carbs per serving.

What are the ingredients in Sugar Free Chocolate Mousse?

You'll need:  cream cheese, sugar-free chocolate chips, heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar-free sweetener, vanilla extract , cocoa powder and salt.  And for a whipped cream topping, you need:  heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar-free sweetener and vanilla extract.

How do you make Sugar Free Chocolate Mousse?

Chocolate Mousse recipes can be long and complicated, but this one takes less than 20 minutes to make and then 30 minutes to chill.  First you cook chocolate chips and heavy whipping cream until melted and combined.  Then transfer the mixture into a small bowl and put it in the refrigerator to chill.  Make the whipped cream topping next.  Beat together whipping cream, powdered sweetener and vanilla extract with an electric hand mixer until stiff peaks form.  Transfer to a small bowl and put it in the refrigerator.  Add in softened cream cheese and beat until it is fully incorporated and fluffy.  Beat in cocoa powder, vanilla extract, the melted chocolate mixture and salt until fully combined.  Then divide the mousse into 4 small ramekins and chill for 30 minutes in the refrigerator before serving.  Top each ramekin with whipped cream.

And that’s all it takes to make Sugar Free Chocolate Mousse.

Ok, now it's time for me to show myself out.

Yes. The cocoa powder does a lot of the heavy lifting.
