Buon giorno! 👋
Today I’m going to show you how to make an easy Keto spaghetti sauce that only takes about 17 minutes to whip up. A classically prepared tomato sauce is typically simmered all afternoon, but you can make a very passable sauce in less than 20 minutes.
So this Keto pasta sauce is quite quick.
Let’s talk about how to make it.
🫕 Ingredients
- extra virgin olive oil
- garlic
- shallots or onions
- crushed tomatoes
- salt
- black pepper
- dried basil
- dried oregano
- dried parsley
- red wine vinegar
- Swerve Granular
🍃 Fresh herbs
Now, like I said, the recipe is meant to be speedy quick, so it calls for dried herbs. But if you’d like to add fresh herbs, then I won’t stop you. Just use 1 tablespoon of the fresh herb instead of 1 teaspoon of the dried herb. You can chop up the fresh basil, or just throw the leaves in whole. You’ll need to fuss with taking the leaves off of the oregano stems, but you can chop up the parsley.
🍚 Sweetener
It might surprise you to see the Keto sweetener Swerve on the list of ingredients. But that is actually the secret ingredient (that and love of course). Most tomato sauces use sugar to counteract and balance out the acidity of the tomatoes. We’ll do the same, but we’ll make it sugar-free.
🥩 Adding beef
It’s easy to make a poor man’s Bolognese sauce too. Just saute your onions and garlic in a large skillet instead of a saucepan and then add a pound of ground beef. Brown the ground beef, drain the fat if you like, and continue with the recipe. The Keto tomato sauce works equally well in Keto spaghetti and meatballs.
🍝 The noodles
There is still the small matter of the spaghetti noodles to consider. Normal durum wheat-based pasta is out of the question, but there are a lot of low carb options out there.
The list includes:
- Shirataki noodles
- Edamame noodles
- Homemade egg noodles
- Homemade lupin flour noodles
- Homemade psyllium husk noodles
- Zoodles (zucchini noodles)
- Palmini noodles
- Great Low Carb Bread Co. noodles
- Carba-Nada noodles
- ImPASTAble noodles

And that’s it. 👩🍳
You can make a flavorful pot of Keto spaghetti sauce in about 17 minutes. And did I mention that it only has just 56 calories and 3g net carbs per serving? Add some zero-calorie zero-carb shirataki noodles and you’ll have a meal with… just 56 calories and 3g net carbs per serving.
Exciting! 😋

This "Spaghetti" sauce isn't just for spaghetti lol..I made an eggplant lasagna with this sauce. It was scrumdiliompus lol.. There are a variety of dishes you can make with this. I am looking forward to making ratatouille. Yum!! This sauce can also be a base for other recipes like cream of tomato soup. You can put this over a meatloaf. Make chicken parm, minus the noodles to keep it keto/low carb 🙂 I mean the ideas are endless with this sauce.. I for one would like to say thank you.. I hadn't thought much about making homemade sauce. But this is a great recipe. 🙂

Yay! Thanks so much! I'm so glad you like the sauce.
And using it for a chicken parm is a great idea. Here's a recipe that I made last year. It uses oat fiber and ground pork rinds as the breading for the chicken. https://www.resolutioneats.com/blog/low-carb-keto-chicken-parmigiana

My carb manager comes up with many more carbs! Gives it an “avoid” rating ??????
EmilyKrill says
Sounds like you might have your serving size wrong. Did you input all the ingredients and just look at that number? In that case, you are sure to get an avoid warning.
This recipe makes 3 1/2 cups of sauce. Each serving is 1/4 cup, so there are 14 total servings. The total carb amount for the recipe is 65g and the fiber is 14g. So total net carbs (carbs-fiber) is 51g. And dividing that number into 14 servings makes every serving have 3g net carbs.
Every carb manager app has differing nutritional info for each food, unfortunately. But if you enter the ingredients into your carb manager and divide the result by 14, then it should come out close to 3g net carbs. No need to avoid this tomato sauce.

Can someone tell me what kinda pasta or what do you put this over if your doing KETO. I hope not that spaghetti squash
EmilyKrill says
Ha, yea. Spaghetti squash definitely gets old. But I've actually got a lot of good low carb noodle options to try. Here's that section of the blog:

Try serving on top of kelp noodles. It is plant based (3g - carbs)
EmilyKrill says
Yes, I like kelp noodles too. Here's a recipe I came up with for Asian kelp and peanut noodle salad. https://www.resolutioneats.com/blog/low-carb-cold-peanut-noodle-salad/

This was fantastic! My non-Keto boyfriend loved it, too! I did let it simmer on low longer to thicken it up because I don’t have xanthan gum, but it was the perfect marinara for my Keto pizza. Thanks!

Sure thing! I love passing the "normal food eater" test. It gives me a great sense of accomplishment. Thanks so much for writing to let me know!

I didnt follow the directions and dumped everything (minus evol) into skillet. Brought to boil and then simmered for 25 min. Still DELICIOUS! Thanks for the ingredient combo!

Good to know!

We are adding ground beef to it and serving it over zoodles. Also made a keto bread today and making garlic bread to go with it.
EmilyKrill says
Sounds good.

I would like to can this if I made a larger amount and us fresh tomatoes instead of can
EmilyKrill says
I really only recommend canned crushed tomatoes for this tomato sauce recipe. Fresh tomatoes just don't have the concentrated flavor that you need for a good tomato sauce. But I don't see why you can't can't double the batch and can it.

Thank you so much for letting me know! I was pretty amazed when I discovered that you do not have to simmer your sauce all afternoon. It really can be quick. Thanks again for your comment. That is so nice to hear.

This is absolutely delicious and will be my forever go to sauce. Even my "hates everything" husband lived it. I will try thickening it a little next time. Would Xanthan work for that?
★★★★★
EmilyKrill says
So glad you like the sauce! And yes, xanthan will be a good thickener. I’d use 1/4 teaspoon first, mix it for a minute or so and add a little more if it’s not thick enough.
Molly says
This recipe was so easy! Sauces usually need to simmer for so long.

I made your recipe and loved it. Wondering if you had any canning suggestions. Some recipes say water bath while others recommend pressure cooking. Just curious which to use and how long to process.
Emily says
Yay! I'm so glad you like the sauce.
I am not a canner though, so I don't have any advice on how long to process it. Sorry!
