Phew! 😅
I’ve been experimenting with this Jello Whip recipe all morning and boy are my arms tired! I’m just kidding. I actually made them in the blender, so all I had to do was hit the button a bunch of times. Even still, the point is that I made a whole mess of whips and am going to share what I’ve learned with you today.
You’ll thank me afterward.
💬 What is a Jello Whip?
A Jello Whip is this retro dessert I found in my absolute favorite cookbook, Joys of Jell-O. There are many different editions of these cookbooks that Jell-O used to produce, and they all have their own unique charms. People used to suspend everything and the kitchen sink in Jello!
It was a whole thing.

🥣 Ingredients
The best part about this dessert is that it only needs 2 ingredients. Plus water. I never know if I should count water? Let us say 3 ingredients then, to be safe. You just need to buy a package of Sugar-Free Jello and some plain yogurt. Greek yogurt makes the airiest Jello Whip, but regular plain unsweetened works fine too.
🌈 Sugar-Free Jello Flavors
You can use any flavor of Jello that you like in a Sugar-Free Jello Whip. I tend to choose the red colors because they taste the best, but you can fight me on this one in the comments if you like. You might not be able to find all of the flavors in your local store, but you can find them all on Amazon.

💰 Where to buy Sugar-Free Jello

🍚 Naturally Sweetened Jello
Now, you probably haven't heard of the last brand of Jello on the list, GramZero. (I only learned about it last month, and I am the Queen of Jello!) It's definitely worth a look though. GramZero is the only sugar-free gelatin dessert without artificial sweeteners. It's sweetened with all-natural stevia leaf, so you don't need to worry about the chemicals used in Jello.

📖 Instructions
- Add ¾ cup boiling water to a medium sized bowl. Pour in Jello powder and stir until fully dissolved.
- Make 1 cup ice water by measuring out 1 cup of ice, and pouring water in until it fills the cup.
- Add ice water to the dissolved Jello and mix until ice melts.
- Add Jello mixture and 1 cup yogurt to a blender and blend on high for 30 seconds.
- Pour the Jello into serving glasses or a medium sized bowl and chill for 2 hours.

🥛 Dairy Free Substitutions
- Plain Greek Style Almond Milk Yogurt: (Kite Hill brand) If you are on a low carb diet, then this is your best choice because Jello Whips made from almond milk yogurt have just 2g net carbs. Plus, it is the only Greek style non-dairy yogurt substitute that I could find, so it will whip up the best.
- Cashew Milk Yogurt: (Forager brand) Jello Whips made from cashew milk yogurt will have 4g net carbs. Be a little wary of the label though, because they claim that it has 1g of sugar in large print on the front. But when you read the nutritional info, you can see that it actually has 8g net carbs per ½ cup serving. So, while technically true, it is a little bit misleading for low carb dieters.

- Protein Almond and Soy Milk Yogurt: (Kite Hill brand) These Jello Whips will have 4g net carbs as well, and they also say 1g sugar on the label. It is nice to sneak a little extra protein in though. It will have 8g of protein, which isn’t too shabby. And if you buy the small 1 serving size container, you can just use 2 of them and skip measuring out the yogurt.
- Vanilla Soy Milk Yogurt: (Silk brand) I actually don’t recommend that you use soy milk yogurt if you are on a low carb diet, because the Jello Whips will have 9.5g of net carbs. But it is a good alternative, if you aren’t on one. And if you combine the vanilla soy milk yogurt with Sugar-Free Orange Jello, it’ll taste just like an orange creamsicle.
- Coconut Milk Yogurt: Do not use coconut milk yogurt. I repeat. Do not attempt to use coconut milk yogurt! It won’t jell right and everyone will be sad, including me.

Like I said, Phew! 😅
It’s sure a lot of info for a recipe that takes all of 10 minutes to make. After the Sugar-Free Jello Whips take a quick trip into the fridge, you'll have a dreamy, creamy, fruity dessert with only 35 calories and 2g net carbs. They are pretty spectacular if I do say so myself.
Alright, now it’s time to kick up my feet and relax. 😉

Can you use Jello pudding or does it specifically need to be Jello? I’d love to have chocolate if possible. Thanks so much.

Jello pudding is composed differently than Jello, so I don't think it would work as well. But it sounds like you are looking for a whipped chocolate pudding dessert. Here's a recipe for pudding mix whipped up with Cool Whip that might fit the bill. I haven't tried it, but it looks like it would work for what you want. https://www.somethingswanky.com/simple-chocolate-mousse/

Where can I find gram zero jello?

I love SO brand coconut yogurt. The vanilla is so good. Nice consistency too! I will try that.

Hi, I make my own pineapple jello with unflavored gelatin, Pineapple Crush drink mix packets, and a cup of pineapple chunks. Raw pineapple will inhibit the jelling process so I cook it for 10 minutes on medium before adding it to gelatin. Heat the gelatin stir together with the pineapple and refrigerate. Sometimes I use Coconut Dream Non-Dairy beverage and it gives that little coconut taste with the pineapple and it suppurates into 2 layers which is nice. I also do the same thing with mangos which is really good. Peach is really good by its self or together with some mango. You can really use and real fruit with unflavored gelatin you want. I like using the drink flavor packets more than the flavorings that you can buy, although I do always use the flavorings when I'm making coffee jello. I have whipped them with yogurt, cream cheese, and cool whip.

Good ideas, but those fruits are off limits if you are doing Keto. I like using drink mixes too. Here’s a jello whip recipe that uses fruit drink enhancers. https://www.resolutioneats.com/blog/keto-orange-tangerine-jello-whips/

Holy cow, I’ve never considered using drink packets for flavoring! That’s an amazing idea! I love the blue raspberry jello, but am diabetic, so this really is a whole new variety of options! Thank you!

My family loves this recipe. We match up the flavor of the jello with the same flavor yogurt. Thank you for sharing.

Sure thing! That’s a good idea.

A reader tried using lactose free yogurt and it worked. Are you able to eat that?
EmilyKrill says
I've never messed around with plain gelatin and flavoring so I can't comment on the doability of that idea. Sounds like you might like another recipe better because it uses real fruit. Try this one: https://www.resolutioneats.com/blog/keto-raspberry-jello-mousse

Thanks for the alternative, I will take a look

Have you ever added fresh lemon juice to boost the lemon flavor even more? Any advice on quantity, technique? Thanks.
EmilyKrill says
No, but you can just substitute lemon juice for some portion of the water 1:1. Sounds delicious. If you really want to pump up the flavor, you could add a little lemon rind too.

Can I use sugar free pudding?
EmilyKrill says
That's a great question. I've never tried it, so I just don't know.
Yaya says
I have made chocolate mousse with sugar free pudding and lite cool whip. Easy, creamy and cold. For Keto, sub heavy whipping cream.
